Representation
The Wiltshire Local Dental Committee (LDC) is a statutory body who’s committee is made up of elected dentists from the local area, working to represent and support the profession locally and nationally.
Wiltshire LDC represents all dentists providing primary dental services under GDS in the geographical region of Wiltshire and Swindon.
All other dentists performing primary dental services (if they so wish) under:
- PCTDS
- PDS agreements or
- GDS contracts
- Other dentists
The 1999 Health Act allowed LDCs to represent PDS and Assistant dentists, if they so wished. This was further modified by the 2003 Act to encompass providers and performers under the new contract. In Wiltshire, the GDPs also gave the LDC a mandate to represent all dentists, whether NHS or Private.

Wiltshire LDC Elections
Elections usually take place in March of each year. Please contact us for the nomination form.
The number of LDC representatives for each constituency is proportional to the number of dental practitioners in that constituency.
Each representative is in active practice in his or her constituency and is elected by dentists practicing in that constituency.
Each representative serves on the LDC for three years, after which they must retire, although they can stand for re-election.
Elections are staggered so that at least one representative for each constituency retires every year.
| Constituency | Number of LDC Representatives |
| Swindon | 5 |
| Kennet & North Wilts | 3 |
| South Wilts | 3 |
| West Wilts | 3 |
| PCTDS | 3 |
